Tench fish (Tinca) is the representative of the carp family that was once actively bred in our country for commercial purposes. Thanks to its juicy, slightly sweetish meat, it was deservedly considered a royal fish. Today people prefer to fish on it mainly on the shores of natural reservoirs – lakes, reservoirs, river bays – or in a pond in the country. These fish with beautiful small scales are kept in large aquariums just to admire. And in order to breed, and feed the tench fish on a fishing trip, it is important to know when and what tench eats.
Aquarium diet for Tench (Tinca)
If there is a desire to populate a pet in a prepared glass container, it is best to pick up fry 3-6 cm, since adults get used to new feeding conditions for a long time (up to two weeks) and can eat smaller fish.
The fry instantly adapts to the food offered, getting used to taking dry food (daphnia, Gammarus, pellets), any other store varieties intended for aquarium fish from the surface of the water. Omnivorousness makes pets convenient to keep in comparison with representatives of other species. In addition, breeding tench fish in an aquarium is original and interesting, unlike the same goldfish.
Growing up in captivity, adults are happy to consume their usual live food, eating chopped earthworms, enchantresses, and bloodworms. Of a person’s homemade food when kept in an aquarium, they are suitable:
- scraped lean beef;
- sour cottage cheese;
- mashed boiled potatoes;
- pearl barley, millet porridge;
- bread soaked with water.
You can replenish the diet with mixed feed with steamed wheat, sunflower cake, grain waste, weed seeds. Lines happily eat aquatic plants in the bottom muddy layer of the reservoir. Therefore, when choosing aquarium plants, pay attention to those that surround the tench in their natural habitat.
Keeping in a home pond
When breeding this amazing fish, you should pay attention to its habits. Interestingly, the tench changes its color not only when it is pulled out of the water, but also when the purity of the water changes. If stagnant water, muddy bottom, lack of oxygen do not interfere with growth, then the cold is hardly tolerated by the tench. When the temperature drops, the already slow-moving fish becomes even slower, its appetite worsens. To avoid this, it is better to maintain the desired temperature regime in the ponds in the country. For the same reason, the tench should simply not be disturbed in winter, since it completely silts up, where it is until spring, when the exhausted, thinner begins to search for food.
The sources of nutrients in spring and summer are mainly natural food, which is already present among the zooplankton of the reservoir. These can be insect larvae, small invertebrates, mollusks, detritus, local flora (pond, etc.). In order to better feed the tench fish, it is necessary to additionally include cereal waste, compound feed, finely chopped vegetables (carrots, beets, potatoes, cabbage). Diverse, micronutrient-rich food allows you to grow large specimens of tench in the pond. Good weight gain comes from the use of universal dry food. It is estimated that in industrial multicultural breeding, the share of this carp in terms of fish productivity ranges from 1-2 c / ha exclusively with natural food to 6-8 c / ha with the inclusion of an artificial diet.
The representative of cyprinids prefers to eat alone, moving away even from relatives. Only the approach of winter makes it join small flocks, which are quite voracious. At the same time, in a large artificial reservoir, he feels much more comfortable than in an aquarium, even with increased nutrition.
However, today it is rare that anyone is engaged in breeding only one species of freshwater fish. You can often find tench swim in a pond together with silver carps, carps, and other common species of fish in temperate latitudes.
Ultimately, Cater to tench fish depends only on the experience, knowledge of the owner of the summer cottage. In addition, you can always ask for advice from representatives of fish farms or fishermen who know all the habits of a cunning tench, are ready to share the secrets of success.
Tench fishing ground bait
The harder it is to catch freshwater tench fish, the more interesting it is to catch. In its natural environment, he likes to hide near the thickets of a quiet backwater somewhere at the bottom. There tench feeds on what he finds among the silt, digging it to a depth of 8 – 10 centimeters. The simplest microorganisms, insects, which, we recall, are also used when keeping fish in an aquarium, invariably replenish its menu. However, he is not against green vegetation, which abundantly covers closed reservoirs near the coast. It can be as growing algae, grass, young shoots of reeds, reeds, as well as their remains, which settle down below, detritus. The share of green fodder is up to 40-60%.
The most productive is tench fishing in spring and summer. After the winter diet the spring, he begins to actively replenish the weight loss, so the main thing is to make the right bait. There are many options. Moreover, as experienced fishermen say, the tench also takes the bait prepared for crucian carp, rudd, and other fish. However, among all the rich catch, only one specimen is often found.
To catch this cautious representative of the carp, you need to imagine where it is found in a particular reservoir and prepare the bait mixture in advance. Despite the fact that stores offer ready-made dry baits specifically for this fish, avid fishermen prefer to cook them themselves. Firstly, it is cheaper, and secondly, factory ground baits are not adapted for any specific area. Thirdly, the mixture may contain ingredients that scare the fish away with their smell or color. The flavors used in them are not always of good quality.
Fishermen, on the other hand, often experiment with animal and herbal supplements to achieve the perfect composition. The most popular complementary food option is a combination of equal parts of finely chopped earth or earth (not dung!) Worms, maggot, and sour cottage cheese. Stir the ingredients well, mold loose balls, scatter them 15 – 40 minutes before fishing near thickets or in windows where fish are seen, as well as near a fishing rod. Part of the mixture will settle to the bottom, attracting her attention. Tackle for a fishing rod needs to be prepared, not thick, but durable. On the hook, it is recommended to plant several small earthworms at once. Lin is easier to lure out on them, however, having swum up, he will still study the food for a while before trying. According to rumors, the tench fish is good at detecting the unnaturalness of the bait and floats away from the fisherman.
Some fishermen offer components for the mixture such as crushed rye crackers, bran, bloodworms, steamed peas or wheat, boiled potatoes, Hercules, sunflower cake, millet porridge. When preparing and using them, rot and mold are unacceptable. Chopped garlic, hemp seeds, or caraway seeds are commonly used as flavoring agents. They are added to the mixture at the final stage.
If fishing is not muddy, but in a clean area, feeder bait is effective. It consists of equal parts of pre-fried fish and breading flour, added there a couple of drops of hemp oil, a small amount of crushed worm or maggot. A little water will help to achieve the desired consistency. The bait for such a bait remains unchanged – a live earthworm, on which the tench bites perfectly.
All recipes and tips are good for fishing from April to mid-September. It is almost impossible to get tench fish in winter, as it goes to the bottom to hibernate. Therefore, we can only live according to the laws of nature, intruding carefully, without causing significant harm to the entire population of the species.
